Lake Matheson is a short, flat walk famous for its mirror reflections of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman on a calm day. The loop is about 2.6 km and takes roughly 45–60 minutes at an easy pace, making it suitable for most people. Go early morning or near sunset for the best reflections and fewer crowds, and bring a light jacket as it can be cool and damp around the lake. What you can expect is a peaceful forest walk and, if conditions are right, one of the most classic reflection views in New Zealand.
