Lake Marian is a compact alpine lake in Fiordland reached by a steep, roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hour return tramping track from a small roadside car park. The trail climbs through beech forest and across some muddy, rocky sections before opening into a narrow valley where the lake sits beneath steep cliffs and a small waterfall; calm mornings give the best mirror-like reflections for photos. There are no facilities or reliable phone signal, so bring sturdy boots, warm waterproof layers, water, snacks and insect repellent, and plan for limited parking and changeable weather.
