This is one of our favourite places in the Philippines! If your travel style is like hours (prefer small towns and nature vs big cities) definitely stay here instead of Cebu City.

Moalboal is a small beach town with good food and a relaxed vibe, but the real reason to come is how close you are to some of Cebu’s best spots:

  • The Sardine Run

  • Kawasan Falls and canyoneering

  • Dao and Inambakan Falls

  • Pescador Island….

HOW LONG TO STAY?

We recommend basing yourself here when in Cebu, staying 4-5 days if you can. That gives you time to do the main things (the sardine run, the waterfalls, etc) without rushing.

GETTING THERE & MOVING AROUND

  • Fly: There’s no airport in Moalboal, the closest one is in Cebu.

  • From Cebu City: 2-hour van ride, ~₱120 per person.

  • Move around town: Trikes for short trips, or rent a scooter (₱300–₱500/day). We hired a driver for ₱3,500 ($90 AUD) and split it between four people.

ACCOMMODATION

Base yourself in Moalboal town near Panagsama Beach so you’re close to the sardines, dive shops, and food. We stayed in D’Gecko Hotel and loved it, great location and incredible staff!
