Bohol was one of our favourite stops in the Philippines! It has a great balance between lovely countryside attractions and epic beaches with excellent snorkelling.
The main things Bohol is famous for are:
The Chocolate Hills, hundreds of cone-shaped hills across the countryside
The Tarsier Sanctuary, home of the world’s tiniest primates (they look like little Yodas)
Panglao Island, with its busy beaches and epic snorkelling
You can also check out Bohol’s main highlights with a full-day trip from Cebu like this one! Very convenient if you have limited time in the Philippines.
HOW LONG TO STAY?
We’d say 3-4 days in Bohol is perfect. That way you can enjoy the beaches, the countryside, and fit in some island-hopping if you’re keen.
GETTING THERE & MOVING AROUND
Fly: Manila to Bohol–Panglao Airport is about 1.5 hrs (₱1,200–₱2,500 / $20–$50 USD).
From Cebu: Take the ferry to Tagbilaran, about 2 hrs. Tickets range from ₱500–₱1,500 depending on class.
Move around town: Tuk-tuks (₱20–₱50), buses (₱40–₱100), scooter rental (\~₱500–₱800/day).
ACCOMMODATION
Most people stay in Panglao (the main resort-like area), but we LOVED staying inland. It was more peaceful and felt more local.
We stayed at Lhoyjean Garden Hostel and can’t recommend it enough! It’s simple but the host, Lhoy, is a legend and made it feel very special.
Panglao felt overdeveloped and busy for us. But if you do want to spend a few days there, here are some recommendations from our mates who’ve stayed there:
