Siargao was one of our favourite places in the Philippines! We spent about a month there and it was SO hard to leave.
There’s some of the best surfing we’ve ever done, excellent island-hopping, heaps of lagoons and rock pools, and some of the best food we’ve had in the country.
The main things Siargao is famous for are:
Cloud 9 surf, the world-renowned surf break (you can take lessons there too!)
Island-hopping in Naked, Daku and Guyam islands
Lagoons & rock pools, like Sugba Lagoon and Magpopongko
Maasin River, palm-fringed river with rope swings
HOW LONG TO STAY?
If you’re a surfer, stay at least 4-5 days. If you’re not, at least 2-3 days.
GETTING THERE & MOVING AROUND
Fly: Direct from Manila or Cebu in about 1 hr. Typical fares are $125–$230 USD.
From Southern Leyte: Ferry to Surigao City (about 2 hrs, ₱800–₱1,200), then another ferry to Dapa (about 1.5 hrs, ₱350–₱500). We just passed through Surigao, it’s not really a tourist stop.
Getting around: Scooter (₱350-₱600/day), tuk-tuks (₱20–₱50), car hire (₱2,000-₱3,500)
Surf costs: Board hire ₱300–₱500 per hour. Lessons ₱800-₱1,500 per session.
ACCOMMODATION
We based ourselves in General Luna, which is the main hub. It’s where you’ll find the cafés, bars, and Cloud 9. If you’ve got more time, spending a few nights up north is a good way to see quieter beaches.
