Barracuda Lake is one of the most unique dives in Coron.
Caution: Please be aware of safety here, listen to your guide, as there are some underwater currents and dangerous areas that you shouldn't go.
We are quite experienced with freediving, so loved freediving here!
As you descend, you’ll hit a thermocline where the water suddenly warms by about 10 degrees!
The lake is named after barracudas that supposedly live here (they are occasionally spotted), but most people come for the surreal underwater landscape.
There are these huge limestone formations that rise from the bottom of the lake, and the visibility is so clear it feels like you’re floating in another world!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Short walk from the boat to the lake via a wooden staircase over the rocks.
Snorkelling, but best experienced while freediving or scuba diving to see the rock formations.
Thermocline hits after diving ~10-metres, you’ll literally feel the water warm up!
The water is very calm and has great visibility, but little marine life.
Be careful for underwater currents and listen to your guide. Do not attempt dives/free dives here if you are inexperienced.
TO ACCESS
Only reachable by boat on an island-hopping tour from Coron.
It's part of the pre-made tour B, like this one.
We recommend booking a private boat if possible, so you can choose your timing and avoid crowds.
Often paired with Twin Lagoon and Skeleton Wreck.
TIPS & HACKS
The thermocline can fog your mask quicker, so be prepared (rubbing the inner side of the mask with a bit of toothpaste/baby shampoo works like a charm).
Bring a good underwater camera or dome housing, the limestone formations look incredible in wide shots.
