We have only swum with whale sharks in Southern Leyte, but have heard great things about Donsol!

Please be aware that the whale sharks are wildlife so there is no guarantee of seeing them. But if you go at the right time then you have a great chance! And it is a magical experience, we saw 3 when we went end of March early April.

Plan your trip between November and June with the sweet spot usually around February to April.

Book an accredited boat through your lodge or the local tourism office and expect early morning snorkel trips.

Bring cash, reef‑safe sunscreen, a waterproof phone case, underwater camera, mosquito repellent and motion sickness meds, and assume ATMs and nightlife are basic.

Lodgings are simple and friendly, and a calm firefly boat tour on a nearby river makes a nice evening add-on.
