This basilica is the heart of Catholicism in Cebu and dates back to the 1500s! Inside, you’ll find the revered Santo Niño (Holy Child) statue, said to be the oldest religious relic in the country.

It’s a big pilgrimage site for locals and can get very busy, especially during festivals. Even if you’re not religious, the atmosphere is worth experiencing.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The main church and outdoor courtyard are usually full of worshippers.

  • Dress modestly out of respect (covered shoulders and knees recommended).

  • Masses are held daily and can be standing-room only.

  • The Santo Niño statue is displayed in a side chapel, expect a queue to see it.

TO ACCESS

  • Right next to Magellan’s Cross in downtown Cebu City.

  • Free entry. Donations are welcome.

  • Try to visit early in the day or later in the afternoon to avoid the thickest crowds.
