Coron has some of the BEST island-hopping we’ve ever done in the Philippines!
It's home to some pretty iconic places:
Kayangan Lake
Twin Lagoon
Barracuda Lake
Skeleton Wreck
Siete Pecados Marine Park
However, don't expect too much from the town itself. It may have improved since we have visited though.
It's a bit underdeveloped and, well, we've had some kind of food poisoning every time we've stayed there 🫠 so be picky about where you eat!!
HOW LONG TO STAY?
3 days and 2 nights are more than enough in Coron. There isn’t much to do in the town itself.
GETTING THERE & MOVING AROUND
Fly: Manila to Coron (Busuanga Airport) takes ~1hr 15min, from $30–$90 USD.
Transfer to town: 30–40 min van ride.
Around town: Motorbike taxis (₱20–₱150 depending on distance), jeepneys (₱10–₱20), or scooter rental (~₱300–₱500/day).
ACCOMMODATION
Stay at Coron town as you’ll have easy access to the tours, food, entertainment, etc.
We stayed in The Funny Lion and it was excellent! There’s an awesome rooftop bar if you want some cocktails in the arvo.
Here are other options with good reviews:
Best budget-friendly stay: Hop Hostel
Best for families and groups: Coron Westown Resort
Best hotel: The Ridge Coron
Best luxury: Two Seasons Coron Island Resort
Quick tip: Avoid scams by reading reviews, do not book places on Instagram or without many reviews yet. We have never been scammed anywhere thanks to this. Always go through the official booking platforms.
BOOKING ISLAND-HOPPING TOURS
There are pre-made tours (A, B, C, D) and private tours:
Pre-made tours are cheaper (~20USD pp), but you'll follow a fixed schedule which usually means lots of crowds. Groups are also larger and you get herded quite a bit. Here are the differences between tours A, B, C, and D.
Private tours are a bit pricier (120-150 USD for the day) but you can tailor the itinerary to beat the crowds and even check lesser-known places. It's very affordable if you split the cost with the rest of your group.
MONEY HACK
Book the tours in town!
There are pleeenty of providers and they all quote very similar prices, so you shouldn't get ripped off.
Booking the tours online is usually more expensive, although it might be worth it if you like everything pre-organised and pre-paid.
