Malapascua is a small island off the northern tip of Cebu, and it’s the only place in the world where you can reliably see thresher sharks!

We didn’t go on this trip but it’s on our bucket list. We were told the beaches are beautiful and way more chill than other parts of Cebu.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Best known for early morning dives with thresher sharks at Monad Shoal.

  • You’ll need to be PADI Advanced (or do your course here) to join the shark dives.

  • Non-divers can still enjoy white sandy beaches, snorkelling, and relaxed island vibes.

  • The island is tiny, no cars, just motorbikes and walking.

  • Accommodation ranges from budget guesthouses to dive resorts.

  • Worth spending 2-3 days there.

TO ACCESS

  • Take a bus or van to Maya Port (about 4–5 hours from Cebu City, ₱200–₱300), then hop on a 30-minute boat to Malapascua (₱100–₱150 per person).

  • Boats leave regularly, but the weather can affect schedules.

  • Once you’re there, everything is walkable.
