Western Australia Travel Guide

Hi we are Chris and Bec (@salt.and.charcoal) We’ve been road-tripping Western Australia since we were kids, hit the road full-time in 2020, and done the AU lap twice 🚐 And WA is still our favourite state, especially for road tripping!

It has a rugged and remote feel, and it's way more 2WD-friendly than you might think. The key is knowing the best routes for YOUR setup and WHEN to tackle them! 🔥 So we created this guide based on ALL the road trips we’ve done across WA with:

✅ 16+ road trip itineraries for any season marked for 2WD or 4WD, so you know what’s doable in a regular car and when to do it

✅ Our fav beaches, waterfalls, gorges, hikes, surfing and snorkelling spots, campsites, bakeries, coffee spots...

✅ Filters like "dog-friendly", "snorkel", "surf"

And once you’ve got the guide, it’s yours for life! We'll keep updating it as we keep travelling.

Hope to see you on the road!

Heaps of info on where to camp, food spots, and a few places we wouldn't have found on our own. Very useful for our trip to Esperance and Margaret River, I recommend this guide to others

Did our Perth to Exmouth trip with this guide and it was super handy (it even has fuel stop recommendations). Already planning to use it again for our Southwest trip in November, thank you Chris & Bec!

Really good value for money. There is so much good info in this guide! Each night we flicked through it in the van. Defiantly felt like we were able to make the most of our WA trip :)

So easy to flick through on the road. Found cool stops I’d never would have found by using google. Love how Chris and Bec go into detail in each spot. Got to agree Wharton Beach was our favourite beach too! Highly recommend this guide to anyone thinking about traveling WA. Thanks guys!

Hi! We’re Chris and Bec, the two adventure lovers behind Salt and Charcoal.

In 2020, we set off to begin a round-the-world trip with no end date planned. And then well, you know what happened that year… cough covid

So instead, we began our altered plan of travelling around Australia by road, living in a 1993 toyota coaster bus! And this was the beginning of a totally different life for us.

On our journey, we realised we’re explorers at heart. We LOVE sharing useful travel tips, road trips and itineraries with you. Sharing our experiences to help improve yours, and meeting like minded people too.

We live the routes we share and we update them when river crossings rise or new campgrounds pop up, so the map in your hand feels like you’re travelling with a mate who passed through yesterday.

We share travel tips on our socials all the time, especially on Instagram. But, we go all out with our travel recommendations with our itineraries here.

We’re absolutely thrilled to share our journey with you and help you in any way we can. Don’t hesitate to reach out anytime.

See you on the road,

Chris and Bec.
