Directions

Just a stone's throw from the Ring Road, you'll find Stóragjá, a fissure that splits the earth, hiding a secret grotto below. After a short walk of a few minutes from the small car park, you'll descend a set of stairs into the rift itself. From there, a ladder and rope lead down to the stunningly blue geothermal water. While this was once a local bathing spot, it's no longer recommended to swim due to bacteria, but it's an incredible, less-crowded place to witness the raw beauty of Iceland's underground springs.
