Book through the 'saltee ferry' or take a trip around the island with the saltee sea safari. The boat ride takes less than 20-25 minutes out to the island. You will need to be prepared to walk in water to get from the boat to the Island as there aren't any docks. (maybe bring spare socks/shoes). the boat ride can be rough so even if it's sunny, you could get wet (bring a raincoat and dry bag).

watch out for seals, whales and dolphins too. You'll often see seals in the harbobur and around the Island.

The best time to go (to see chicks and feeding is in June-July, especially if you'd like to see puffins)
