Isola Tiberina is a small island in the Tiber River and one of the most atmospheric transitions between central Rome, the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere.

Why it’s worth visiting

It is not a major monument, but it gives Rome a poetic river moment. It works beautifully as a soft transition toward evening.

Best time to go

Late afternoon or evening.

Estimated time

15 to 25 minutes.

Insider tip

Do not rush it. Use it as a pause between the structured Vatican part of the day and the warmer evening atmosphere of Trastevere.

Travel tip

This is a good place to slow down before dinner or aperitivo.

Local warning

Avoid isolated river level paths late at night if you are alone. Stay on main streets and bridges.

Cost

Free.
