The Trevi Fountain is Rome at its most cinematic and theatrical. Crowded, dramatic and almost unreal, it is still one of those places that makes first-time visitors feel the magic of the city instantly.

Why it’s worth it:
Even though it is extremely famous, the Trevi Fountain is worth seeing because of its scale, movement and emotional impact. The sound of the water, the marble figures and the tight little square around it make the moment feel like a scene from a film.

Insider tip:
Go very early in the morning if you want space, or late at night if you want atmosphere. During the day, do not fight the crowd too much, take your moment, then escape into the nearby streets.

Best time to go:
Sunrise for photos, late evening for atmosphere.

Estimated time needed:
15–25 minutes.

Good for:
First-time visitors, couples, photographers, movie lovers, iconic Rome.

Nearby spots:
Galleria Sciarra, Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna, Via dei Condotti, Palazzo Doria Pamphilj.

Local warning:
Do not eat at the first restaurant you see around the fountain. This is one of the easiest areas in Rome to overpay for a mediocre meal.
