Rastinniemi is a nice camping destination in Taipalsaari in the middle of Lake Saimaa. Rastinniemi is located in Kyläniemi, which is connected by a ferry via Ruokolahti. Rastinniemi is a recreational area intended for general use. The area has two fireplaces, wooden toilets and waste management. Fires can only be made in the campfire places under the kitchen roofs. Short-term camping is allowed in the area. Rastinniemi can be reached by water or by car by ferry across the Kutvele canal. There is a short walk from the parking lot to the cape. The place is also popular with kite surfers because the big back of Saimaa is often windy.

-Please take your trash with you to the big dumpsters that can be found along the roadsides, even though you can find small waste management in the campsite.

The whole Kyläniemi is part of the second Salpausselkä ridge formation, which formed at the end of the last ice age. About 11,800 years ago, the climate cooled down again “temporarily” and the retreat of the ice edge stopped. The Salpausselkä was formed from the earth materials pushed by the ice and transported by the meltwaters. Kyläniemi rises from the waves of Lake Saimaa and cuts through the large open waters of Saimaa.
Kyläniemi is geologically, biologically and scenically a very significant ridge area, and it belongs to the national ridge protection program and the Natura 2000 protection area network. Rastinniemi also has trenches (clearly visible, but not found information on the net) and two vessels have also sunk on the west and east sides of Rastinniemi. According to the internet material, the wreck on the east side is located at a depth of about seven meters and is possibly an old wooden barge.

Rastinniemi on mukava retkeilykohde Taipalsaarella, keskellä Saimaata. Se sijaitsee Kyläniemessä, joka on yhteydessä Ruokolahden kautta kulkevalla lautalla. Rastinniemi on yleiseen käyttöön tarkoitettu virkistysalue, jossa on kaksi nuotiopaikkaa, huussit ja jätehuolto. Tulenteko on sallittu vain keittiökatosten alla olevilla nuotiopaikoilla. Lyhytaikainen leiriytyminen alueella on sallittua. Rastinniemeen pääsee vesiteitse tai autolla lautalla Kutveleen kanavan yli. Pysäköintialueelta on lyhyt kävelymatka niemen kärkeen. Paikka on myös suosittu leijalautailijoiden keskuudessa, sillä Saimaalla tuulee usein.
