What you’ll do

For those who want to do it properly

If you have a full week, this is how I'd spend it. No rushing, no skipping the good parts, no arriving home wishing you'd stayed longer.

Day 1 — Arrive & Feel the City
Land in Zadar, drop your bags, and walk straight to Porto Antico — the old town waterfront, the sea wall, the first view of the Adriatic. Dinner at Providur to start the week well. Early night. The week ahead deserves energy.

Day 2 — Zadar, Properly
The full old town day. Narodni Trg for morning coffee, Forum Romanum, Church of St. Donatus, Cathedral of St. Anastasia, Kalelarga, City Walls, Five Wells Square. Lunch at Restaurant Malo Misto. Afternoon swim at Kolovare Beach. Sunset at the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation — this is non-negotiable and it's as good as everyone says. Dinner at Konoba Dalmacija — go with patience, the food is worth the wait. Gelato from L'Amore per il Gelato on the walk home. Night view from Gradski Bridge before bed.

Day 3 — Nin & The Northern Coast
Morning drive to Nin — Church of the Holy Cross, the old town, the therapeutic mud at Laguna Nina. Lunch near the lagoon. Afternoon back in Zadar, slow walk along the Promenada, Slastičarna Donat for something sweet, early dinner at Restaurant Terracotta.

Day 4 — Dugi Otok & Telašćica
The big island day. Early ferry to Sali, Telašćica Nature Park for the morning — the bay, the cliffs, Mir Lake. Lunch at the park. Afternoon at Sakarun Beach if the ferry schedule allows — it usually does with careful planning. Evening ferry back to Zadar, tired and completely satisfied.

Day 5 — Ugljan, Pašman & Biograd
Morning ferry to Ugljan, bicycle south through the olive groves, across the bridge to Pašman, swim in a cove on the western coast, lunch in Tkon. Ferry to Biograd na MoruMarina Kornati, Heart of Biograd, Plaža Bošana for a late afternoon swim. Dinner at Konoba Rafaelo in Biograd before driving back.

Day 6 — Plitvice Lakes
The inland day. Leave early, arrive at the park as it opens, spend four to five hours on the boardwalks, lunch in the park, drive back via the coastal road as the sun drops. Arrive in Zadar in time for a late dinner at Restaurant Malo Misto or a quiet evening at Konoba Dalmacija.

Day 7 — The Slow Goodbye
The last day always deserves to be unhurried. Morning coffee at Narodni Trg, one last walk through the Caruggi and along Kalelarga. Slastičarna Donat for breakfast pastries. Walk the Promenada one more time, slowly, all the way to the Sea Organ. Sit on the steps. Watch the water. Gelato from L'Amore per il Gelato. One last swim at Diklo or Puntamika before the drive to the airport.

Zadar will feel familiar by now. That's the whole point. Come back soon — Northern Dalmatia has a way of making sure you do.

Tips for the week:

  • Base yourself in or very close to Zadar's old town — everything works better when you can walk home

  • Rent a car for days 3 and 5 at minimum — the coastal drives are part of the experience and public transport to Nin and Biograd is workable but slower

  • Book Plitvice tickets the moment you know your dates — summer availability disappears fast

  • The ferry schedules to the islands change seasonally — download the Jadrolinija app before you arrive and check connections in advance

  • Build one genuinely unplanned afternoon into the week — Zadar rewards people who wander without a destination, and the best moments of any trip here tend to happen when you stop following the itinerary
