A small paradise within a larger one that is the island of São Miguel, the Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo provides an intense day for those who visit it.

Located in front of the village of Vila Franca do Campo, about 1 km from the coast, this place is the result of the crater of an old submerged volcano, considering one of the main tourist attractions of the island of São Miguel, especially since one of the stages of Red Bull Cliff Diving took place here - the world championship of diving on cliffs.

Classified as a Nature Reserve, it has the walls of its crater covered by endemic vegetation, while inside there is a natural pool with an almost perfectly circular shape, which communicates with the sea through a narrow passage. This opening is called Boquete and is facing north, that is, in the direction of the coast of the island, which prevents the entry of maritime agitation into the interior. Its crystal clear waters and the small but charming beach are excellent for swimming and diving.

In the months of June to September, from the Tagarete pier, there is a regular boat service that connects Vila Franca do Campo and the islet. After a small and pleasant journey through the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean we landed on this small island, where we quickly realize how small we are in the face of what mother nature gives us.
