Groceries for the Ring Road
Food in Iceland is expensive - here was our strategy to save $$.

Ring Road, Iceland
Outside of flights and our campervan rental, groceries were our most expensive spend category while in Iceland. We spent about $1,200 USD for 2 adults and a 3-year old for 12 days - and this would have been even more expensive had we not strategized our shopping. Here are a few tips:
If you can fit it, bring as much shelf-stable foods that you can from home.
Stop at Iceland's Costco to stock up on bulk items (it's on the way from the airport to Reykjavik).
Shop at discount grocery stores as much as possible like Bónus and Krónan.
Buy some instant food such as camp meals, ramen, soup, and sandwich ingredients.
Note - we are a pretty healthy and fit family who eats a good amount of food, prioritizing fresh meat protein sources (chicken, beef), healthy fats (avocados, nuts) and basic, clean carbs (rice, potatoes). Much of our groceries included items such as these, plus a ton of fresh fruit for our toddler, which is why our total grocery costs were so expensive.
You MUST try the Icelandic Skyr - it's a great alternative to Greek yogurt but even better in my opinion (the salted caramel flavor literally tastes like ice cream).
