Gaiman is a Welsh village one hour from Puerto Madryn and 15 minutes from Trelew. This entire region of Patagonia was largely settled by the Welsh. In 1865, a group of 150 Welsh settlers crossed the Atlantic on a ship called the Mimosa to create a new community where they could preserve their language and culture, free from English influence. Read more here.

Gaiman as a day trip is a popular excursion from Puerto Madryn, this excursion focuses on Welsh Patagonia history with tea time in Gaiman and a visit to Donovan (another Welsh settlement) as well. You'll also stop at the paleontology museum in Trelew. Once in Gaiman, you can tour their history museums and try traditional Welsh tea at one of the town's many tea houses. Organized excursions will likely include tea time.

If you have your own rental car, you can try to squeeze in a bit more and combine Punta Tombo with your visit to Gaiman. Spend the morning with the penguins and stop by Gaiman on your drive back to Puerto Madryn.
