Paruqe Histórico Punta Cuevas is at the extreme south of Puerto Madryn by the Monumento al Indio Tehuelche.

History: This beach is marked by its steep cliffs with caves carved into them by Welsh settlers. When the first settlers arrived on the Mimosa in 1865, the disembarked and carved their first homes into these cliffs. They lived in these caves until they founded Puerto Rawson later that same year. The name for this spot in Welsh is Penrhyn yr Ogofâu.

Why visit: Beyond the history housed here, the scenery of the beach with the cliffs towering overhead is extremely beautiful. You can see marine life here, including whales swimming offshore from June through November. The area is also home to museums about the nature and Welsh history (see nearby pins nearby in this map).

🌅 This is a beautiful spot to see sunset at the end of the day.
