This is the port of Villa La Angostura on the Quetrihué Peninsula. Angosta means narrow, and this narrow stretch of land flanked by two bays gives this town its name, La Angostura.
There is a path down the isthmus with beach access to either bay. The bays are polar opposites - Bahia Brava and Bahia Mansa. Brava means wild, and Mansa tame. And on a windy day you can note a clear difference and understand why they were given those names.
🧉 Picnic on the beach: Just behind the beach of Bahia Mansa a tiny playground with swings facing the water. This is an ideal spot for a picnic lunch or afternoon mate. If you haven't brought your own lunch, you can grab a pizza or some empanadas from the restaurants on the main road.
🚢 Catamaran Excursions: There are daily catamaran tours that depart from this port on Bahia Mansa onto Lago Nahuel Huapi and to PN Bosque de Arrayanes (ideal if you don't want to hike the park). The excursion lasts approx. 2.5 hours.
You can purchase tickets on the dock the day of in lower season. In peak summer season it is always a good idea to plan in advance. I've attached a photo to this guide of the schedule. It is from September 2023 (low season), which means you can ignore the price. It is just to give a general idea. Confirm here for up to date information.
🥾Hike Parque Nacional Bosque de Arrayanes: The park's visitor center is located right here at the end of the isthmus after you pass the beaches. It has public restrooms and information on the hikes. You can pay for your park entrance fee here.
