La Islita is just that, a tiny island just off the shore in Lago Lacar in San Martin de los Andes. You can visit as an easy day hike or by car. Once there you can easily spend the day relaxing with a picnic or your 🧉 mate. So bring snacks, drinks, and sunscreen.

  • Hike: Go to this trailhead in SMA to start the hike. The entire trail is around 7 kilometers and you'll see a few different trails that will all end at the same point - la islita. Some hikers say going on the smaller trails are more peaceful. You'll pass viewpoints like Cerro Bandurrias, and be able to access Playa Bonita and La Islita.

  • By car: Take the camino a Hua Hum (Ruta 48 through the park towards Hua Hum). You'll see a parking lot on your left at Cerro Bandurrias where you can leave the car

  • Entry fee: This land belongs to the Mapuche Curruhuinca community and they charge for access ($7,000 pesos as of November 2025, but if reading this at a later date expect more due to inflation). Bring cash for this. You will pay this fee whether you hike or drive once you reach the barrier for the Curruhuinca community's land.
