Caleta Valdés is a small strip of land in a cove (caleta translates to cove) just off shore. A colony of sea lions and elephant seals live here, returning every year to give birth and nurse their young.

Bring your binoculars, this particular colony is quite far from the viewing platforms.

Can you see orcas? Yes! This - along with Punta Norte - to see orcas hunting these seal and sea lion pups. The downside is that it isn't as comfortable a place to camp out and wait for a while. If you want to really sit for a few hours in hopes of catching an orca sighting, then you'll be more comfortable at Punta Norte. That said, you never know. You could get lucky! We waited for ages at Punta Norte to see an orca, then drove over here and saw 4 or 5 orcas swimming among the sea lions. It was sheer luck and an experience I'll never forget! In the attached photo, you can see the orcas fins in the water.
