Cascada Chachin is a short hike uphill to the most impressive waterfall in Parque Nacional Lanin.

How to get to Cascada Chachin:

• By car: You'll drive Ruta 48 from town toward Hua Huam Pass, you'll pass Playa Yuco (do these on the same day), and continue driving past Playa Hua Hum (with a restaurant open seasonally and for tour groups) then pass a park ranger station (with clean bathrooms open year round). After this you'll loop around the lake's shore and drive up and down switchbacks until you reach the Chachin parking lot. There is plenty of signage at the end so don't worry if you think you're lost, you will eventually see the signs to point you the rest of the way. Return the way you came down Ruta 48.

• By boat tour: If you don't have a rental car, this boat excursion departs from SMA and goes to Quila Quina, Hua Hum, and Cascada Chachin.

🥾About the hike: The hike is short at just 1.3 kilometers each way. Calculate an hour total for this hike. You'll go slower on the way uphill, enjoy the view from the viewing platform for a while, and then effortlessly return downhill afterwards.

🍔 Facilities: There is a small kiosco/snack bar and bathrooms by the parking and picnic area. I'm not sure about seasonal or operation hours. We visited once in March and found it all open, this trip (in October) we found it closed. If you're going in busy season I'm sure it will be open.

🧺 The area around the parking lot is very beautiful with a small creek flowing with picnic tables. If you have a picnic lunch this is a beautiful place to sit for a while. If you have kids they can run freely here in the grass among the trees.
