Cascadas Ñivinco is a low effort high reward hike on the 7 Lakes Route. Here is the Google Maps pin for the parking lot.
The trail takes about 40 minutes each way and calculate in some time to sit and enjoy the view. Bring snacks and water.
It is an easy hike and appropriate for all ages. My 3 year old did it but admittedly had quite a lot of piggy back as well. At the start of the trail you do need to wade through a creek (I included a video of my husband crossing above). Wear something like these Teva sandals if it's warm enough out when doing the hike to be most comfortable.
🥾 When to hike to Ñivinco? The trail is open year round but it is recommended to hike within the months of November to April due to the stream crossings and snow on the trail in winter.
❄ We did this hike in late September one year. It was a warm day and it had not rained or snowed in days. The stream crossing was not pleasant but was doable. If going in a time of year that you'll have sneakers or your hiking boots then bring something like this small quick dry towel to dry your feet off after the crossing. For comfort, toss in your crocs or tevas for the crossing. We didn't think about that and had to cross barefoot, not an impossible task but also not comfortable whatsoever on the rocky river bed while my feet froze in the freezing river. Even though we did this hike at the tail end of winter, be careful before heading out. Are other people on the trail? What's the weather been like? Is there snow on the ground? Don't take unnecessary risks.
⚠Safety: Unfortunately there are a lot of car break ins in this area of the country. I don't recommend going on this hike with all of your belongings in the trunk. Try to come as a day trip from Villa La Angostura or San Martin de los Andes instead. Leave no valuables in the vehicle.
