We love this hotel so much. It's perhaps the greatest hotel experience we have ever had. We've been lucky to spend 10 nights in their grand suite, which is right below the presidential suite. There is so much history to this hotel, which is why we also recommend staying here. There are a few things to keep in mind though:

• It's expensive and you need to pay up to get a suite. If you go with the cheapest room, you will get a small one and it will be located in the modern addition to the hotel.

• Generally the hotel is a little outdated compared to what you pay, so if you want state of the art modern luxury amenities, it's not for you. You book this hotel because you want the old charm, the classic beauty and wonderful common areas whether it's the pool breakfast area or the rock pools with stunning Funchal views.
