Belém Tower is the gate to Lisbon. It's where pirates could be seen from afar and prisoners kept in the basement and sometimes drowned when the high tide came in. Today it's one of Lisbon's biggest tourist attractions, but for us it's not about about the actual tower. Sure, it's beautiful and you can also see it from the inside, but we prefer everything around the tower. It's a wonderful area with green areas, beautiful river views and epic sunsets. When we lived here we would walk to the tower to watcht the sunset at least 3 times a week.
