Perched high on a hill overlooking St Ives, the Tregenna Castle Resort Hotel is a magical 72-acre hotel in St Ives. With sea views, a beautiful restaurant and tropical gardens to explore, it's the perfect spot to start the hike from.

The fancy name and stunning photos might make you think this hotel has a high-end price range, but don't worry! This is the hotel I use with all my hiking groups in Cornwall, and the prices are okay.

Because the hotel is large with a lot of rooms, they are quite competitive with prices. I've found them to be more cost-effective than some of the smaller hotels in town.

Tips on getting the best rates at Tregenna:

• Book online as far in advance as possible

• Opt for the castle double/twin rooms with breakfast included & book the advanced purchase for up to 20% of regular rates

• Avoid summer holiday months if possible, when the prices are highest, April, May, early June, mid-September & October are best

Vegan food & eating at Tregenna:

• The breakfast is buffet style, they will do vegan sausages on request, I would recommend letting them know in reception when you check in that you'll be wanting vegan sausages and dairy free spread for toast the following morning

• There are two restaurants at Tregenna, Olives which is open for drinks, coffees and light lunches/snacks during the day and the Godfrey View restaurnat which opens in the evening, both have good vegan options which are usually seasonal, they also have a delicious vegan sunday roast

• I would recommend booking in advance for both your breakfast spot, I usually do this for the earliest time possible which is 7.45 am and dinner because the restaurant get's busy and I've seen people without reservations get turned away
