Nairn Falls: The Sculpted Power of the Green River
If you are looking for a "high-reward, low-effort" stop along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Nairn Falls Provincial Park is a must-add to your Rexby map. Located just 5 minutes south of Pemberton, this park protects a dramatic 60-meter waterfall that has spent millennia carving deep potholes and smooth chutes into the surrounding granite.

The Experience: A Walk Through the Pines

The hike to the falls viewpoint is a flat, scenic 3km round-trip that follows the edge of the Green River. We love this trail because it offers a perfect balance—you get the rushing sound of the river on one side and the quiet scent of a lodgepole pine forest on the other.

The Viewpoint: As you reach the end of the trail, the canyon tightens. You’ll step onto a series of fenced-off rocky platforms where you can look directly down into the churning "cauldron" of the upper and lower falls. The sheer volume of water moving through such a narrow space is a powerful reminder of the raw glacial energy of the Pemberton Valley.

Look for the unique "potholes" in the rock near the falls—these were created by small stones caught in swirling water, drilling perfectly circular holes into the granite over centuries.

Parking tip:
The day-use parking lot is right off Hwy 99. It is large and generally accessible, but it serves as a popular rest stop, so it can be busy mid-day.

Photo Pro Tip:
To maximize your chances of seeing the vibrant spectral bands in the mist, aim for late spring to early summer (May through June). During this time, the "freshet" (snowmelt) is at its peak, creating the massive amount of airborne spray required to refract the light.

  • Optimal Time of Day: Aim for mid-morning (between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM).
