On the southern slope of the Acropolis, the Theater of Dionysus Eleuthereus is one of the oldest theaters in the world. This was where Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes staged their legendary plays, bringing tragedy and comedy to life. The theater could once hold 17,000 spectators, making it a central hub of Athenian culture.

👉 This is where Greek drama was born. The same plays you studied in school were likely performed here first!
