Le Western Hills (西山, Xīshān), note come le Montagne Verdi Dormienti, si trovano a ovest del Lago Dian e sono una delle mete più famose di Kunming, classificate AAAAA (5A) nel sistema turistico cinese. Qui natura e spiritualità si intrecciano tra boschi, templi, padiglioni e panorami mozzafiato.
Il punto più celebre è la Dragon Gate (龙门, Lóngmén): un complesso di passaggi, terrazze e sculture incise nella roccia a picco sul lago, realizzate a mano da monaci taoisti tra il XVII e il XIX secolo. Dalla terrazza si gode una delle viste più spettacolari sul Lago Dian e sulla città di Kunming.

A blend of nature and spirituality, the hills are dotted with forests, temples, pavilions, and scenic viewpoints.
The highlight is the Dragon Gate (龙门, Lóngmén) — a series of cliffside grottoes, carvings, and terraces painstakingly carved by Taoist monks between the 17th and 19th centuries. From its terrace, visitors enjoy breathtaking views over Dian Lake and Kunming.
