I highly recommend a visit to the “cubiertas” of the cathedral to enjoy stunning views over Málaga and learn about the fascinating architectural history of this building.
If you’ve ever wanted to do this, don’t wait too long - there’s a plan to create a new roof for the cathedral that could start in just a few months and is estimated to take 2.5 years to complete. I haven’t been able to find any information on whether tours will still take place during that time.
Visitor info:
I did a guided tour with the local tour company @cultopia_es that started in the nearby Málaga Museum, where there are two 16th-century models of the cathedral. The tour cost €15. If you’re an architecture fan (and speak Spanish), this a great option, but you can also book a shorter tour via the cathedral’s website. The price is €8 for the roof only or €12 for roof + Cathedral, but Málaga residents pay just €5.
