JAPAN, Japan

Japan’s climate varies drastically by region and season, so packing layers is essential.

Spring (March–May) can be chilly in northern areas like Aomori, while Tokyo and Kyoto may already feel like early summer. Cherry blossom season often requires a light jacket and scarf for evenings. Summer (June–August) is hot, humid, and rainy—bring breathable clothing and an umbrella. Autumn (September–November) is cooler and drier, perfect for hiking but unpredictable in mountainous areas. Winter (December–February) ranges from mild in Tokyo to snowy in Hokkaido—pack accordingly if skiing.

Comfortable walking shoes are a must year-round, as you’ll average 10,000+ steps a day. Compact rain jackets, travel umbrellas, and breathable layers are lifesavers. For up-to-date forecasts, check the Japan Meteorological Corporationwebsite: https://www.jma.go.jp/jma/indexe.html.
