How to reserve seats & buy tickets

The Luzern-Interlaken Express is a scenic train traveling between Lucerne and Interlaken. It departs hourly, travel time about 1h50.

You do not need to book in advance, seat reservations are not required. Most seats on this train cannot be reserved.

But you can optionally reserve seats if you have a fixed travel time and want to ensure seats together with your group.

Cost

Seat reservations for the Luzern-Interlaken Express cost CHF 16 (May-Oct) and CHF 12 (Nov-Apr).

The ticket is free with Swiss Travel Pass, Lucerne Travel Pass, Bernese Oberland Pass, or Eurail.

Otherwise, buy the ticket on SBB Mobile app or on-site at ticket machines.

In 2026, a one way ticket is CHF 34 (2nd class) and CHF 58 (1st class). Discount 50% with Half Fare Card.

How to reserve seats

You can reserve seats up to 6 months in advance.

You can optionally reserve seats in two 2nd Class carriages and one 1st Class carriage, as noted on the diagram below. The seats on the other carriages are first come, first served.

Best to sit on the right side of the train.
