Aletsch Arena is one of my favorite places in Switzerland, with an amazing view of the Aletsch glacier, the longest in the alps. In mid October, the hillsides are filled with golden larch trees.

One of the easiest glacier viewpoints is at Bettmerhorn at 2647m. To get here, you start with a cable car from Betten to the alpine village Bettmeralp. Then a short walk through this charming town to a gondola, which takes you up to the Bettmerhorn peak. At the top, there is a viewpoint over the glacier, restaurant and small exhibition about glaciers.

This viewpoint is a great option for those that do not want to hike or if the trails are covered in snow. Note that the Bettmerhorn gondola runs through the third weekend of October. After that, you would need to hike up the mountain to get the glacier view.

If you want to hike, we suggest the Aletsch Panorama Trail, which hikes closer to the glacier ice.
