If you need a short outing in Zermatt, this lake is a great choice as it is only a short walk from the cable car station.

This beautiful alpine lake has one of the nicest Matterhorn views. It's quite easy to access with mountain transport. You start with the Sunnegga funicular train then gondola up the mountain to the Blauherd station. Then a 20 min walk down to the lake, either on a mountain trail or service road.

On a clear day, the Matterhorn peak is reflected in the water, best photographed from the far side of the lake. It's a great place for a picnic. Or you can hike a bit further to the Flualp mountain hut for hearty Swiss dishes with a glacier view.

If you have the energy, we suggest a detour up to the Fluhalp mountain hut for fondue with glacier views.

If you want a longer hike, this lake is the first stop on the longer 5 Lake Walk, which ends at Sunnegga.
