Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland and the fourth largest natural freshwater lake in Europe, located in southeastern Finland. With a surface area of about 4,279 square kilometers, it's a popular spot for summer cabins and lake cruises. Home to unique species like the endangered Saimaa ringed seal and salmon, Saimaa also boasts rich asbestos deposits along its shores. The lake is connected to the Gulf of Finland via the 43-kilometer-long Saimaa Canal, making it a hub for transportation and tourism. Overall, Saimaa is a picturesque destination with a mix of natural beauty and historical significance.
