The drive from Lake Louise to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) covers approximately 232 km one way and takes around 3 hours without stops, though you'll likely want to allow much more time to take in the incredible scenery. We recommend allocating around 6 hours one way (without any hikes). This world-renowned route offers access to some of the most iconic viewpoints in Banff and Jasper National Parks. Notable stops include the turquoise waters of Bow Lake and Peyto Lake, the breathtaking Mistaya Canyon, and the awe-inspiring Columbia Icefield, where you can view the Athabasca Glacier up close or take part in guided glacier tours.

Fuel stations are limited along this route—there is only one seasonal fuel stop at Saskatchewan River Crossing, which operates from spring to fall. Be sure to fill up your tank in Lake Louise or Jasper before starting the drive. Cell service is very limited or nonexistent for much of the parkway, so it's important to download offline maps and have emergency essentials on hand. Expect to see wildlife like bears, mountain goats, and elk, especially during early mornings and evenings—drive cautiously and never feed or approach animals. There are also no towns or major services between the start and end points, though you'll find picnic areas, viewpoints, and a few visitor centers, such as the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, which offers washrooms, food, and interpretive exhibits (seasonal).
