The Banff Gondola is one of the most popular experiences in Banff. In just eight minutes, you’re carried to the summit of Sulphur Mountain. It's elevation is over 2,000 feet and you arrive at a world-class viewpoint overlooking Banff, the Bow Valley, and endless jagged peaks. It is quite pricey (prices are below) so if you're on a budget, you either hike to the top of sulfur mountain or you can miss out on this ride and opt for the many other free trails which offer similar if not better views.

The ride is smooth, with floor-to-ceiling views from your enclosed gondola car and is beautiful any time of year. Once at the top, you’ll find a multi-level summit complex with sweeping observation decks, interactive exhibits, a theater, a café, and the stunning Sky Bistro restaurant.

If you’re up for a little extra exploring, don’t miss the boardwalk trail to the old Cosmic Ray Station, a National Historic Site that offers even more views along the ridge.

Parking is available at the Banff Gondola lot (and is free) on Mountain Avenue. However, parking fills up quickly, especially in summer. During peak months (May to October), it’s highly recommended to take the Roam Transit Route 1 or the free shuttle from downtown Banff, which runs regularly and drops you right at the base.

Pricing starts at:

  • Adult (16+): ~$76 CAD

  • Child (6–15): ~$49 CAD

  • Children under 5: Free

  • Family passes and sunset rates (discounted after a certain time in the evening) are also available.

Local Albertians get a discounted rate. Booking online in advance is highly recommended — not only to secure your preferred time slot but also to save a few dollars versus buying tickets on-site.

There is also a cafe on top if you're craving a coffee.
