Quarry Lake Park in Canmore, is a former open-pit coal mine turned into a stunning recreational spot surrounded by majestic mountains. This is the perfect spot for picnics and taking a dip in a gorgeous lake. Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are popular activities here along with nature walks. Wildlife sightings are common, and there's an off-leash dog park nearby for furry friends to enjoy. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SPOT TO VIEW THE THREE SISTERS PEAKS!

There’s a designated parking lot at Quarry Lake, located just off Spray Lakes Road. Parking is paid year-round (around $20/day or $2/hour), and fees go toward maintenance and conservation. It can fill quickly on sunny summer days, especially on weekends, so plan accordingly. Washrooms are available at the trailhead.

The lake is nestled at the base of Ha Ling Peak and the East End of Rundle, offering incredible views in every direction. There’s a short loop trail (~1 km) that circles the lake, with benches and grassy areas to sit and soak in the surroundings. The trail is easy and flat, making it accessible for families, kids, and even leashed dogs.

In the warmer months, it becomes the perfect place to swim, paddleboard, picnic, or just sunbathe beside the water. While the lake is small and shallow, it's clean and clear — though definitely on the chilly side, even in summer. In the fall, the area turns golden with aspens, and in winter, it's often blanketed in snow, creating a quiet, frozen wonderland.

This is a popular spot for weddings and engagement shoots, so don’t be surprised if you see a couple dressed to the nines at golden hour!
