Scattered across the city you can find tiny, arched wine windows which are one of the Florence's most enchanting quirks. First introduced in the 16th century by noble families looking to sell their estate wines directly to locals, these discreet openings became an early form of 'curbside service', complete with a small wooden door and a bell to summon the cellar worker within. They resurfaced again during the plague years, when their design allowed for near‑contactless transactions. Today, many have been restored, and a handful are back in use, offering a charming glimpse into Florence’s history and its love of wine.
