Slovenia is one of the most photogenic countries we've ever visited! Here are our top 10 favorite photo spots with photography tips.
It's hard to stop taking photos of Velika Planina since the entire area is beautiful, but this was our favorite photo spot with stunning mountains in the background. Located right by Domžalski dom, you'll need a good telephoto lens for this one!
Getting to the peak of Mount Visevnik requires a steep and challenging hike, but the view is absolutely worth the effort. We recommend doing the steeper side of this hike on the way up and coming down the more gradual way. If you get lucky like we did, you may also see a mountain goat or two at the top!
We weren't expecting to find one of our favorite views at a cafe, but that's exactly what happened. You'll need to climb some stairs to reach the cafe, which is perhaps why this spot is not very crowded despite the amazing view! Make sure to try the famous Lake Bled cream cake while you're here.
This is perhaps the most photogenic spot on the entire Soča River. What makes this spot so unique is that the bridge is partially built into a massive rock. Note that you cannot drive to this spot - you will need to hike to it via the Soča River trail.
Slovenia has many beautiful historic churches, but this one especially took our breath away. Located along the Solcava Panoramic Road, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the background made this one of our favorite views of our trip. We recommend parking along the road before you reach the church (there is a roadside pull-out near Tourist Farm Rogar) so that you can get the view of the mountains in the background and the grass and wildflowers in the foreground. You'll need a telephoto lens for this shot as well!
Climbing the bell tower of this beautiful historic church is a must-do activity if you're visiting the coastal town of Piran. The bell tower offers 360 degree views of Piran, and while you'll find most people photographing the town from above, we loved this angle looking out at the Adriatic Sea. Tip: Make sure to bring cash to climb the bell tower (3 euro per person) as they do not accept credit card.
The trailhead to this viewpoint is right along the lake and a short but steep 20 minute climb to the top. Visit at sunrise or sunset but less crowds and dreamy lighting, or visit during the day for a view of Bled Island surrounding to stunning turquoise water.
The main road that takes you through Logar Valley is truly breathtaking. Highland cows greet you at the entrance and the mountains ahead are so much larger than we were expecting. You'll want a telephoto lens to create that big mountain, small person effect when photographing your subject walking on the road.
Located right by the trailhead parking lot for Kozjak Waterfall, this bridge offers one of the most stunning views of the Soča River from above. This bridge is an active road, so use caution when walking on it and taking photographs.
Due to its convenient location just outside the main town of Bled (and because of its beauty), Vintgar Gorge is a very popular spot. This means it can be challenging to get photos without other people in them...unless you arrive early! Book the very first time slot of the day at 8 am and you will have no problem getting shots of the gorge without the crowds.
