According to Portuguese law (Law no. 66/2021) you're allowed to sleep inside the van in public areas - as long as you've parked correctly and don't sleep outside.

Here is what matters:

  • sleeping inside is allowed in non-protected areas

  • setting up chairs, tables, and cooking outside is officially not allowed, but you can do it when there is no one around.

  • staying overnight in protected nature areas, is strictly forbidden. You can do so at your own responsibility.

  • please stay no longer than 48hrs per municipality
