Gaspar Frutuoso, a 16th-century historian and priest, described Ponta Delgada in his book Saudades da Terra as a "slender point of land that disappears into the sea." This area, shaped by the sea, has existed since 1552.

Ponta Delgada covers 8.8 km² and is known for its fertile land, which produces some of the island's local specialties. The region is also recognized for its lush green landscapes and offers many attractions to explore.

In the parish, you can visit the Dr. Horácio Bento de Gouveia House-Museum. This 17th- and 18th-century house showcases traditional Madeiran architecture and was the birthplace of Horácio Bento de Gouveia, a notable teacher, journalist, and writer. The museum displays antiques and items related to the writer.

On sunny days, the Complexo Balnear da Ponta Delgada, with its two saltwater swimming pools, attracts many visitors. The first weekend of September is also a special time, as the village celebrates the lively festival in honor of the Holy Sacrament, known as Arraial do Bom Jesus.
