Câmara de Lobos, the oldest fishing village in Madeira, was once known as a place best avoided. However, that has changed significantly, and the charming village has now become a popular tourist destination. This is where the drink "Poncha" originated, a concoction invented by the fishermen to ward off colds. It's made with sugarcane rum, which contains about 50% alcohol, and is mixed with orange juice, lemon juice, and honey. Nowadays, many different fruit flavors are available.

The village is also known for deep-sea fishing, particularly for the "Espada" fish, which is caught at depths of around 1000 meters, only in Madeira and Japan. This white fish is traditionally prepared with fried banana and passion fruit juice.
