In 1836, Boaventura became its own parish, separate from Ponta Delgada, but the origin of the name "Boaventura," which has been used since the 16th century, remains unclear.
Boaventura is located in the municipality of São Vicente on the northern coast of Madeira and is a small, tranquil parish surrounded by lush mountains. It feels like a natural retreat, with beautiful valleys shaped by numerous streams, creating a peaceful and secluded atmosphere.
In Boaventura, you'll find several 'levadas' starting from the Ribeira dos Moinhos. These include Achada Grande, Levada Grande (which stretches to Ponta Delgada), Faias, Achada dos Alves, Pastel, and Achada or Serrão. The area is also known for its unique basalt formations, such as the "chimney" and "Carapita."
Don't miss the breathtaking views from the viewpoints around the hills—they provide a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of the region.
