Kafteji is a classic Tunisian dish—especially famous in Kairouan—made with fried vegetables, egg, and a generous kick of harissa, all chopped together into a flavorful mix. After stuffing the sandwich to the brim the owner will also shove in some delicious french fries as well! We tried it a few times across Tunisia, but this spot blew the others out of the water.

At Kafteji Khayri, a massive, overflowing kafteji sandwich will set you back just 2.5 Dinar (less than $1!), making it one of the best cheap eats we’ve found. It’s a local favorite, so expect a line during the lunch rush, but trust us, it’s worth the wait.
