This place looks like the surface of another planet. Chott el Djerid is a massive salt flat in the middle of the desert that stretches as far as the eye can see. Most of the year, the lake is completely dry, leaving behind a flat expanse of salt on the ground.

If you are lucky enough to visit when it rains (which is very infrequent), it turns into a giant mirror.
You'll drive through Chott el Djerid on your way from Tozeur to Douz (or vice versa). There are several cafes and photo spots to stop at, including one with an abandoned bus and another with a boat.
