The Arnaldo Tupiza Chamaidan Tortoise Breeding Center is the perfect place to observe thousands of turtles ranging in age from babies to adults. Located just 1.5 km from Puerto Villamil, visitors can discover how these reptiles reproduce and grow in captivity with the hopes of restoring their wild populations that are considered endangered. During the walk to the center, visitors can marvel at the unique local flora such as mangroves, faique, palo santo, capraria, rodilla de caballo and more! The breeding centre even includes a special enclosure for four male and two female "Cerro Paloma" turtles - the only known survivors among the species. With the help of the conservation efforts at the centre, hundreds of vibrant 'galapaguitos' have flourished!
